New doctor at Hospice of Marion County

Dr. Sheni Meghani is the new medical director/palliative care at Hospice of Marion County. She previously was medical director/palliative care services with the Veterans Administration’s Eastern Kansas Healthcare System in Topeka, Kansas, and has almost 20 years in clinical work with the VA.

Meghani graduated from the NHL Municipal Medical College, Ahmedabad, India, with a Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBBS) and received her Doctor of Medicine from KM School of Postgraduate Medicine & Research, Ahmedabad, India, in 1999. She also received a Master of Public Health from Des Moines University College of Health Sciences, Iowa, in May 2008.

Loan deadline approaches for local UF students

March 26 is the application deadline for loans from the Milling Foundation, which provides low-interest and even no-interest loans to Marion County students who are attending the University of Florida. 

«Students can use their loans for tuition and other educational and college living expenses,» Marion County Public Schools said in a news release. «As long as students are enrolled at UF, no interest is charged on the loan. Loans may even be interest-free for students moving back to Marion County after college graduation.»

Applications are available at high school guidance offices. The foundation can be reached at 840-3269.

Williston company partners with LPGA Tour

Williston-based Beltz Portable Toilets, a woman-owned company, was official portable toilets provider for the LPGA Drive On Championship presented by Volvik, which was played this past weekend at Golden Ocala.

«The company is comprised of five women and dedicated to offering hygienic portable sanitation facilities,» the LPGA said in a news item, which also noted that partnering with the company was part of the tour’s commitment to expanding its diversity, equity and inclusion footprint.

Lisa O’Keefe, a marketing consultant and former vice president of partner solutions and media sales at ViacomCBS, will be the speaker at the next meeting of the Ocala chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. This Zoom meeting will begin with networking at 11:45 a.m. on March 19.

Ocala Civic Theatre offers college scholarships

April 16 at 5:30 p.m. is the deadline for applicants seeking scholarships from the Ocala Civic Theatre. Applicants must be high school seniors or full-time college students pursuing a major in theater arts (theater, playwriting, directing, or design and technical production), music (vocal or instrumental) or dance. Appleton Museum offers free admission to community heroes

Effective immediately, free admission to the Appleton Museum is available to all law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, 911 operators, health care, hospital and hospice professionals, and K-12, college and university instructors.

“Working with CF President (Jim) Henningsen and our Advisory Council, the Appleton continues to be a leader among museums in Florida to offer year-round free admission to these heroes,” Appleton Assistant Director Victoria Billig said in prepared remarks.
