BEIJING, May 2 (Xinhua) — The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.
MONSOON BREAKS PROMOTE GRASS GROWTH
Climate sensitive Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has witnessed vigorous vegetation growth, although the soil water of the region reduced due to the South Asia monsoon break, according to a recent research article published in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences.
The monsoon break, a typical climate change of the plateau, induced remarkable reductions of precipitation and soil moisture content of the central-eastern of the plateau.
BACTERIAL COMMUNITY TO REDUCE PLASTIC WASTES IN OCEAN
Chinese researchers have identified a marine bacterial community capable of degrading plastic waste of poly (ethyleneterephthalate) and polyethylene.
They collected hundreds of plastic waste sample around the offshore waters of east China’s Shandong Province and obtained three bacterial strains that can coexist stably with and significantly degrade plastic waste.
SOFT ROBOTIC ARM
Researchers from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) have developed a soft robotic arm that can perform delicate daily tasks.
Cleaning windows, opening doors, bottles as well as drawers, gripping a piece of tofu and drawing straight lines with a ruler are no problem for a robotic arm.
When the chambers in the pneumatic network inflate, the robotic arm can bend and move in all directions through changing the honeycomb structure, waving freely like an elephant trunk.
